Your knowledge of the Buddha’s words and the application of those “words” are exceptional. Thank you for your time and most importantly reminding me of the teachings of the Buddha.
p.s. I am so thankful to have the ability to communicate with you/Phra Ajarn Paiboon ka!
Highly Respect,

Namassakarn Pra Ajarn,
Today, my mother and I have a good chance to listen to your teaching in this program. It’s a great time for us.
My mother told me to ask Pra Ajarn about “concentration mind” explained. She wonders when we do any of routine
works and make the meditation by observing our breath in the same time, whether it’s possible for doing two things together.
She has learned that Meditation means to pay concentration on one thing at one time. However, I can do only easy work(doing the house work, driving, exercising, etc) but not hard ones like calculating, correcting mistakes etc. Therefore I cannot help her clear with this point.
Thank you very much for your kindness.
Namassakarn Pra Ajarn with highly respect.

P.S we can listen to this program on UBC(radio mode, Channel 21 – FM 107) as well.

How can I get the Sunday Dhamma Talk (English) in mp3 format (Broadcasted on 20 Aug, FM107)
FM107. Sunday dhamma talk is on every Sunday, which one are you referring to 21 or 14 Aug? (not 20 Aug)

This is the first time I lock in to puredahmma.com but for more than 10 year I had been listening to the Dhamma talk. Since B.E.2540, every Sunday morning I used to run for maintaining my good health with small portable radio and earphone so I did not miss the broadcasting. It’s a pity that today the mobile phone have replaced that obsolete radio.
Today I would like to ask for your kind assistance to inform me about any book of Dhamma vocabulary that I can search for; these kind of vocab will help me to explain Dahmma to American friends during their visit to Thailand on some occasion for example Cobra Gold (CG) training in which I always take part as an advance interpreter for US Army General.
Finally, I would like to disclose my intention to be ordain in the blanket of Buddhist for sustaining the teaching of Lord Buddha; I am 62 years and retired from military duty that I had been worked for 44 years.
Yours worshipfully
LTC Kasetsart Santa songkraw
Dear LTC.
Thanks for listening. With regards to Dhamma Vocabulary, i normally use Dhamma Dictionary English-Thai by P.A. Payutto. I haven’t find online version yet, but if you want online translation, this website can provide some information http://nkgen.com/buddhist/buddhist2.htm
Going forth (ordain) is an important decision in life, especially for ex-social service or veteran, as the Buddha mentioned that it could be challenging for these group of people. Anyway, going forth, live homelessness life, waring saffron robe is a good choice to make.
I would like to listen to ur retrospect tape in what u spoken things and I wanna to practice English Dhamma. Hao can I get the mp 3. of ur speech in English.
thanks for listening. There is a volunteer who’s now working on archive all this MP3 both on Sunday Dhamma Talk (English) and Morning Dhamma (Thai). It will be completed in next few months. Once it’s ready, i’ll let you know.
Hello/sawasdeekrab/PraAjan: We are researching new elementary schools for our daughter and came across something that stikes me as ODD! One school claims that playing an instrument will help your child to achieve mindfullness and assist with meditation. The latter (meditation) may be true, but I seriously doubt any external object will assist in ANY way with the mindfullness part of my statement. Can you comment, please.
I could not find any support for this in “The Buddhas Words”.
Thank you so much/Khobprakhunkrab
Jeff (“the American”)
There is such thing call “Carnal Happiness”. this happiness will lead to “Concentration”.
As you know. if a person has “Morality” (or Virtue) that will lead to “Non-remorse”, which will lead to “Joy”, which will lead to “Serene Body”, which will lead to “Happiness”, which will lead to “Concentration”, which will lead to “See things as they really are”, …
This type of concentration is induced by external factor (sensual pleasure)
This mindfulness is probably not the “Right” mindfulness (the one in Magga). The 1st mindfulness is kind of ‘attentive’ or ‘careful’. But the “Right Mindfulness” is about the ‘mind’ and the ‘mind’. (those attentive, careful are about using mind for outside).
This, in fact, a very good question. I’ll make a post for this in a few days.

I have read the interviews of Pro. Richard Gombrich, would you please explain the following his explanations. (The other crucially important thing is that the Pali Canon says that the doctrine of Dependent Origination, with its twelve links, is extremely obscure. The Buddha even reprimands Ananda for saying that he understood it. A Polish lady called Joanna Jurewicz has finally understood it.* Without denying the mainstream interpretation, she has shown that the links are in the order that they are and are the specific links that they are, because again, the Buddha was taking off from Vedic cosmology.) your respond is appreciated.
Highly Respect

His name is Professor Richard Gombrich. He is the founder of Oxford Centre for Buddhist Studies in Oxford University, UK.
There are too many to list all his publications. His latest book is ‘What the Buddha Thought.’ I guess you can find it in leading bookshops or for sure amazon.com. Another one is ‘Theravada Buddhism: Social History of Buddhism from Benaras to Colombo’
And many more. Please find it on amazon.com

I am in the process of learning about the buddist religion. I’m reading “In the buddha”s words” by Bhikkhu Bodhi. Can you please suggest another book to read? Best Regards, Jeff
“in the buddha’s words” is a very good book. Ven Bodhi’s translation is very beautiful. You can visit http://www.accesstoinsight.org look for beginnings Buddhism FAQ. That’s short and sharp explanation of everything.

I’ll do my best to make the dhamma talk available in Podcast format, now figuring out how to do it.
I just happended to listen to your talk today of vocabulary, you have made it clear several Bhudda words for me. However I wasn’t too clearly understood of the 7 factors of Enlightment. Could you please provide me its explaination thru my email. It would also be great if you can point me to the source of this topic I can learn from. Thank you very much.
Best regards,
That’s right, the session on last Sunday (18 July 2010) is just to give only overview of certain vocabulary, The details of each doctrine, like “Factor of Enlightenment”, will be covered in next session which will be on 15 and 29 August 2010. Thanks for listening.
In short, these 7 factors are components of the state of enlightenment and contributory factors to its achievement ==> Boj-Jhan-Ga
Here is the details in the word of the Buddha about the 7 factors (bojjhanga)
bojjhanga: ‘the 7 factors of enlightenment’, are: mindfulness (sati-sambojjhanga; s. sati), investigation of the law (dhamma-vicaya-sambojjhanga), energy (viriya-sambojjhanga; s. viriya, padhána), rapture (píti-sambojjhanga, q.v.) tranquillity (passaddhi-sambojjhanga, q.v.), concentration (samádhi-sambojjhanga, q.v.), equanimity (upekkhá, q.v.). “Because they lead to enlightenment, therefore they are called factors of enlightenment”
(1) “Whenever, o monks, the monk dwells contemplating the body (káya), feeling (vedaná), mind (citta) and mind-objects (dhammá), strenuous, clearly-conscious, mindful, after subduing worldly greed and grief, at such a time his mindfulness is present and undisturbed; and whenever his mindfulness is present and undisturbed, at such a time he has gained and is developing the factor of enlightenment ‘mindfulness’ (sati-sambojjhanga), and thus this factor of enlightenment reaches fullest perfection.
(2) “Whenever, while dwelling with mindfulness, he wisely investigates, examines and thinks over the law … at such a time he has gained and is developing the factor of enlightenment ‘investigation of the law’ (dhamma-vicaya°) ….
(3) “Whenever, while wisely investigating his energy is firm and unshaken … at such a time he has gained and is developing the factor of enlightenment ‘energy’ (viriya°) ….
(4) “Whenever in him, while firm in energy, arises supersensuous rapture … at such a time he has gained and is developing the factor of enlightenment ‘rapture’ (píti°) ..
(5) “Whenever, while enraptured in mind, his body and his mind become composed … at such a time he has gained and is developing the factor of enlightenment ‘tranquillity’ (passaddhi°).
(6) “Whenever, while being composed in his body and happy, his mind becomes concentrated … at such a time he has gained and is developing the factor of enlightenment ‘concentration’ (samádhi°)
(7) “Whenever he looks with complete indifference on his mind thus concentrated … at such a time he has gained and is developing the factor of enlightenment ‘equanimity’ (upekkhá).
Thank you very much for the explaination ka. I’ll keep learning and practicing the Bhudda teachings.
With best regards,
I would like to read or even listen to dhamma from Pra Ajarn in English from this website, would it be possible? cuz I only saw 4 comments in English. Thank you very much
thanks for the feedback, more English posts on the way. I’ll make the radio program as a podcast too.
